Interview with the Artist

Interviewer: "How old are you, and how long have you been painting?"

Artist: "I'm 55, and I've been painting most of my life. I guess I started at 2 years old."

Interviewer: "Why do you draw or paint?"

Artist: "Well, I believe tricycles, gardeners, and escalators all have one thing in common."

Interviewer: "What's that?"

Artist: "Well, you see, the fluorescent rollerskates traveling at the speed of sound within the sound barrier give away to the icicle bridge, which therefore tips over the fruit basket, creating a scene in the Desolate wilderness, providing comfort and joy in times of racing with the wind.

Grand Pappy, sitting on the porch, whittling a piece of wood, humming a tune, skipping a stone, barbecuing with the hang gliders at the top of the mountain, sliding down the mudslide, scratching records in the skyscrapers, floating on down into the ocean singing and swimming with the whales, escapades on ice, skaters, purple giraffe, Donkey Kong, flim- flam, Shabba Dabba Doo-da, Skippity Tippity, said he."

Interviewer: "Uh... right. So, to clarify, the fruit basket, the whales, and the hang gliders... they’re all part of your inspiration process? Or...?"

Artist: “Exactly! It’s all connected. You’ve got to understand that the purple giraffe and Donkey Kong have been running this show for years. You just have to catch them between the raindrops, you know?”

Interviewer: "I’m not sure I do... but it sounds like your creative process is... unique?"

Artist: “Unique? Nah, it’s just Tuesday. You want to hear about Wednesday?”
